Coming Up: Troy University’s Summer Spotlight 2022

Troy University's Summer Spotlight 2022

Lights. Camera. Action! Those are just a few words participants in Troy University’s Summer Spotlight 2022 are likely to hear during weeklong artistic experiences held on campus through June and July.

Summer Spotlight 2022

Back for the 13th year, Troy University’s Summer Spotlight 2022will host three programs for children and teens as well as a series of intensives for high school and college students.

The Department of Theatre and Dance creates immersive experiences for young people interested in honing their skills in the art of performing.

Participants will have the chance to cut loose and have fun while learning creative ways to express themselves. Not only are the counselors fine and performing arts majors, campers will also have the chance to work with faculty and visiting guest artists from around the country.

The intensives

The intensives for high school and college students are all held the week of July 17th-23rd on Troy’s campus. The weeklong residential camps immerse the students in all aspects of theatre, film and dance on stage, on screen and behind the scenes.

The three intensive programs offered include:

  • Performance Intensive: Designed to sharpen participants’ skills daily. They can pick from musical theatre to hip hop to playwriting to puppetry. Auditions then place them in a company spot for the week. The Spotlight Showcase held at the end of the week gives them the chance to show off their skills to family and friends.
  • Tech & Management Intensive: Get ready to run the show—literally! Students will have the chance to discover various technical theatre challenges and skillsets. Try out designs, and manage mini-productions throughout the week. The Spotlight Showcase is then completely managed by the Tech & Management participants.
  • Film Intensive: Work together to write a script, create storyboards, plan a shot list, shoot scenes, edit footage and finally showcase a short film at the end of the week.

Kids camps

Day camps for kids and teens ages 4-13 include a Creative Drama “Mini Spotlighters” half-day camp for ages 4-7 June 27th-July 1st.

ComiCamp is for ages 10-14 and explores the world of comics—creating characters, stories and illustrations. It is also June 27th-July 1st. Creative Drama Camp “Spotlighters” for children ages 8-13 will be July 10th-15th.
